Firestopping plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity of fire-resistance-rated assemblies and protecting life safety within buildings. This presentation provides a practical overview of firestopping requirements under the British Columbia Building Code (BCBC) and the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC), with a focus on how code requirements translate into real-world design, installation, inspection, and maintenance practices.

Vijay Lucas is a licensed Professional Engineer with EGBC in British Columbia with approximately 20 years of experience spanning electrical engineering and fire protection engineering, building code consulting, fire testing, certification, and technical leadership. He has worked across Canada and the UAE, progressing from performing in the capacity of an electrical engineer to fire test engineering of various building construction products at accredited test laboratories in UAE and Canada. Vijay has progressed into a senior consulting role and drives unique business development opportunities at Jensen Hughes.
