This in person meeting will be held at in person at the Langara Golf Club (6706 Alberta St, Vancouver, BC V5X 4V8). Parking at Langara is now has paid parking, the venue provides 2 hours free at the Clubhouse, parking longer than 2 hours requires payment or will be ticketed.

Past Chapter Presidents, Bob Heikkikla and John Ivison will present on their career highlights, emphasising the changes in FPE practice over the years as well as current issues and challenges going forward in FPE practice.
John Ivison BSc (Hons) P Eng (ret). CP MIFE FSFPE:
John Ivison has over 30 years of experience as a Fire Protection Engineer and Building Code Consultant within Canada and abroad. Over Johns distinguished career he has worked with the Insurers Advisory Organization, BC Forest Production, Protection Engineering Inc, Buro Happold Engineers, International Fire Consultants UK, Wood Enterprise Coalition, and is the founding principal of John Ivison and Associates Ltd. In addition to John's lengthy and diverse work experience, he has held many appointments among fire protection engineering related organizations, including:
• Adjunct Professor, University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada, (1995 – 2000), Masters Programme in Fire Protection Engineering
• APEGBC Coordinator for Certified Professional Programme, University of British Columbia
• Former Spokesperson on Fire for APEGBC (now EGBC)
• Twice President: BC Chapter of Society of Fire Protection Engineers
• Former Commissioner: Vancouver Heritage Commission
• EGBC Task Group Chair for various BC and national code changes.
• Former member of standing committee on fire protection: National Fire Code.
• Chair EGBC revised guidance on Fire Protection Engineering Services for Building projects.
Robert Heikkila, P. Eng, C.P., MBA, FEC:
Bob Heikkila is an expert in Building Code Consulting and Fire Protection Engineering with 38 years of experience. Bob was an associate at Rolf Jensen & Associates, a Founding Principal of CFT Engineering Inc, and Director of Western Canada at Jensen Hughes. Bob has provided consulting services on a wide variety of large and small projects across western Canada and Ontario over his career, including multi-tower mixed use highrise developments, industrial facilities, hospitals, major residential developments, and institutional facilities such as schools and penitentiaries. Bob has been a co-author of many influential publications within the industry, including:
• Chapter 5 (Fire Safety and Protection) of the “Technical Guide for the Design and Construction of Tall Wood Buildings in Canada”, published by FPInnovations, 2014.
• Chapter 5.5 (Fire Protection Considerations) of “Joint Professional Practice Guideline – Encapsulated Mass Timber Construction Up to 12 Storeys”, published by Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC) and Engineers & Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC), 2021
• EGBC Professional Practice Guideline “Fire Protection Engineering Services for Building Projects”, for the first edition published in 2008 and the second edition published in 2021
