Morrison Hershfield - Fire Protection Engineer

Morrison Hershfield Limited is looking for a Fire Protection Consultant in our Ottawa office. This role will be focused on the delivery of various fire protection projects, including fire and smoke modelling, evacuation modelling, alternative solutions and engineering judgments. This role will also apply Codes and Standards to support Code Consulting and Fire Protection System design projects. The position will involve the application of fundamental principles of fire dynamics, behaviour of materials in fire, and human behaviour in fire. An understanding of design and construction, passion to continue to learn and excellent communication skills are required. The successful candidate will work in a team environment, working closely with both junior and senior staff to deliver projects, and will have the opportunity to deal directly with clients for proposals and delivery of projects.

Responsibilities

  • Apply fundamental fire protection principles to support investigation, design and construction projects 
  • Support internal and external clients by advising on application of Codes and standards 
  • Conduct site visits to gather data on existing conditions and review construction 
  • Prepare reports and other technical communication 
  • Work with project teams including other staff, other technical disciplines and contractors for successful project delivery 
  • Assist in the preparation of project proposals and liaise with clients 
  • Contribute to the Code and Life Safety team with a positive proactive approach

Qualifications 

  • Degree in Engineering - Fire Protection preferred but other disciplines with relevant experience also considered 
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience, consulting experience preferred 
  • P.Eng. designation or eligibility for registration with the PEO as P.Eng. 
  • Demonstrated ability to use fire and smoke modelling software 
  • Ability to grow in technical, communication and business skills
  • Knowledge of Canadian Building and Fire Codes and related standards
  • Experience in project management is an asset but not required
