The Canadian Wood Council, the national association representing Canadian manufacturers of wood products used in building construction, seeks a highly motivated and skilled individual to advance the use of wood products as a state- of-the-art and fire-safe building material.
The candidate will be responsible for strategic building codes and standards initiatives related to fire protection and fire safety issues; applied engineering problem solving; development of new design tools and publications related to building fire safety; and delivery of end products through seminars and media to targeted audiences, including engineers, architects, building officials and fire services.
The ideal candidate will be able to apply the principles and practices of fire safety engineering and/or fire protection engineering; have Canadian building code, regulations and construction knowledge; and have sound engineering skills. A relevant engineering degree is desired, and professional registration is an asset. A minimum of 7-10 years of experience (or equivalent) in the field of building codes and standards or fire protection / fire safety engineering is required. Ability to regularly travel within North America will be required.
In addition, the candidate should have strong communication skills both written and oral; sound computer skills; an understanding of wood products; and the ability to work in an English environment. The ability to work in French would be an asset. The position is based in Ottawa.
