Fire Protection Engineer, HRSDC LABOUR

The Job

As a member of the Fire Protection Services you will be responsible for the administration and enforcement of Treasury Board policy and standards on fire protection for Federal Government departments and engineering services for First Nations.
Some of the key activities include:

  • Evaluations and reviews of construction documents from a fire protection viewpoint (design and shop drawings prepared by various disciplines),
  • Project inspections and acceptance tests of new constructions and fire protection systems,
  • Provides technical advice and training,
  • Evaluates national policies, codes and standards

What We Offer

  • Indeterminate full-time (37.5 hours/week) position in Vancouver.
  • Classification: ENG-03 or ENG-04 , based on experience
  • Salary: based on the classification $70,287 – $94,409 (currently under review)

What We Need

Candidates are required to satisfy the following Essential Qualifications before being hired (conditional job offers may be made if some items require verification or completion). The Asset Qualifications are not required to be appointed to the position.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Official Languages Proficiency: English essential

Education: Graduation with a degree from a recognized university in an engineering discipline relevant to the duties of the position and/or with specialization in fire protection engineering.
Eligibility for certification as a Professional Engineer in Canada

Experience:

  • Experience in fire protection engineering relating to design and construction.
  • Experience in conducting plans and specification reviews.
  • Experience in conducting inspections.
  • Experience in commissioning fire safety systems and equipment.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of principles and practical application of fire protection engineering
  • Knowledge of the National Building Code and the National Fire Code
  • Knowledge of current issues relevant to the field of fire protection

Abilities:

  • Review and evaluate drawings and specifications from a fire protection standpoint
  • Applying principles and procedures
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Post graduate studies from a recognized university leading to a Masters degree in fire protection engineering.

Experience: Experience in developing and conducting training and education seminars on fire protection matters.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • May be required to work weekends and after hours.
  • Must be willing to travel, sometimes in remote locations.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
