Plan Checker 4 | Plan Review Supervisor

As a member of the Planning and Development Department’s Building Division team you will be responsible for leading and supervising a team of plan checkers. In this role, you will oversee the processing and checking of building permit applications, plans, and specifications for residential, institutional, assembly, commercial and industrial buildings and related construction.
Other duties include ensuring that the proposed building designs, materials, and devices comply with related By-laws, regulations, standards, and Codes. Carry out site investigations and provide assistance to building inspectors when requested to do so. Provide technical and regulatory advice on By-laws, Codes, and related requirements to the public as well as technical assistance to other staff.
You possess effective oral and written communication skills and an ability to read and interpret building construction plans and drawings. In addition you will have a thorough knowledge of relevant by-laws, codes, regulations and working knowledge of the standard practices and materials utilized in building construction.

Qualified applicants will have completion of Grade 12 supplemented by a Diploma in Building Technology plus a minimum of five years’ experience in a related supervisory role. You must have at least three years’ experience as a plan reviewer for complex developments. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. A level III Certificate from the Building Official’s Association of BC and a valid B. C. Driver’s License is also required for this role.
